Who am I...

I am an associate professor of practice and the director of undergraduate studies in the department of geosciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. I have a BS, MS, and PhD in geology from Syracuse University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of California, Los Angeles, respectively.  I enjoy communicating science to varied audiences (through teaching, writing, podcasting, and public speaking), and about my personal experiences with a focus on the natural world.

I live with my husband (a fellow geologist), and our two sons. We escape to our upstate NY lake house in the summers, on the shore of Irondequoit bay, in the town where I grew up. There, I get to be in my element - by the water - and spend countless hours swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, and exploring the many beautiful gorges created during the last ice age.
